MetaPhysical Theatre, based in Welland, Ontario, Canada, was founded by Artistic Director, David Langlois, an international performance artist versed in mime, Commedia dell’arte and many aspects of physical theatre. Mr. Langlois has performed nationally across Canada and internationally in Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to shows he has created and produced, he also provides workshops and education at various levels focused on performance, masks and other aspects of physical theatre.

Afin de s’achever à un public francophone et d’accroître son audience, MetaPhysical Theatre ajoute le nom Théâtre Qui Vive. Basé à Welland en Ontario, MetaPhysical Theatre a été établi en 1987 par David Langlois, artiste versé en mime, masque, mouvement et commedia dell’arte. Depuis sa fondation, MetaPhysical Theatre présente ses oeuvres aux écoles secondaires et aux Festivals Fringe à travers le Canada, aux États-Unis et en Australie et la Nouvelle-Zélande.

Bitten by the theatre bug at an early age, David first appeared on stage with Hollywood Squares’ regular, Soupy Sales. Participation in high school drama led to enrollment in the Theatre Department of Sir George Williams University in Montréal, known today as Concordia. Upon graduation in 1974, a one year program of study in mime, mask, movement, clown and commedia dell’arte followed at the Canadian Mime School in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Being cast in a school touring production of Jean Anouilh’s ‘Antigone’ with Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius in 1976, meant that he became a professional as member of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. Later that year, he journeyed to Blue Lake, California where he enrolled in a one year program at the Dell’Arte School. Soon after returning to Canada, he was invited to join Toronto’s Mime Co. Unltd. A ten year association followed wherein David served as company member/assistant director. In 1987, he established MetaPhysical Theatre, of which he remains the Artistic Director today.
Depuis 1976, David exerce son travail dans le théâtre. Baccalauréat en Beaux-Arts de l’Université Concordia de Montréal (1974), diplômé de l’École Canadienne de Mime (Canadian Mime Schoo) à Niagara-on-the-Lake (1975), suivi par un an d’études à l’École Dell’Arte en Californie (Dell’Arte School). En 1978, David devient membre de Mime Co. Unlimited à Toronto. servant comme assistant au directeur/membre de la compagnie. En 1987, il établi MetaPhysical Theatre. Avec l’établissement de sa propre compagnie, il devient responsable pour la conception et création de sept pièces de théâtre originales, pièces qui ont tournées aux Festivals Fringe à travers le Canada, aux États-Unis (Floride et Californie) et en Australie et la Nouvelle-Zélande: En ordre de création elles sont: ‘Emotional Baggage’ (1987); ‘No Direction Home’ (1989); ‘Earthlings’ (1991); ‘Julius Rex’ (1996);The Seven Lively Sins’ (1997); ‘Fool’s Gold’ (2000) et ‘Pierrot et La Lune. (2012).’
